Let’s face it, one of the first things people want to tell you about wedding planning is how stressful it can be. From the endless Pinterest scrolling to the seemingly endless to-do list, it's easy to get overwhelmed. With a little planning and a lot of self-care, I promise it's possible to navigate the wedding planning process without losing your sanity.
"Comparison is the thief of joy."
1. Set Realistic Expectations - And for the record Instagram and Pinterest are not aiming for realism! The ideas you see on these platforms are probably not going to happen in real life... and that's okay! Set realistic expectations for yourself, taking into account what you actually like and make it your wedding day.
2. And Talking of Social Media - STOP COMPARING! Comparison is the thief of joy and you know it, so just allow everyone to have their weddings, their way and make sure to do the same!
3. Take Your Time - It's tempting to dive headfirst into wedding planning, but it's important to take your time. Some wedding vendors will have you believing you have to have everything booked the week you get the ring but I promise, the right vendors will be available when you're ready. Step away from the planning every now and again and spend some time reminding yourself why you're planning a wedding in the first place!
4. Delegate - Don't try to do everything yourself. Whether it's hiring a coordinator or delegating tasks to friends & family (so long as your friends and family are prepared not to add to any stress), I promise you, it will save your sanity to hand off the tasks you have spent months putting into place.
5. Don't Be Afraid to Say No - It's okay to say no to things that don't authentically feel like you. Don't feel pressured to please everyone on a day meant for the two of you.
6. Laugh It Off - Things will go wrong. It's inevitable. But having the right vendor team around you will take away some of the stress and allow you to laugh it off once a fix is already in place! A little humour can go a long way in reducing stress levels.
7. Remember Why You're Doing This - At the end of the day, you're planning a wedding because you're marrying the love of your life. It's about the two of you so don't let any stress that planning brings, overshadow the joy of the occasion.
Remember, planning a wedding should be fun! So relax, enjoy the process, and don't forget to take care of yourself whilst you plan the start of the rest of your life.
